When your credit runs out

We would rather warn you than pause you. This is the order of events.

  1. Low credit. You get an e-mail when your credit is low, with an estimate of the hours left.
  2. Pause. When the credit is used up, we pause your servers and tell you by e-mail. A paused server does not bill for compute.
  3. Back again. Top up, and the servers we paused start again. A server that you stopped yourself stays stopped: lifting the pause starts it for a moment, and we shut it down again right away. When your power timetable stopped or started a server during the pause, it comes back that way.
  4. Last warning. When servers stay paused, we e-mail you a last warning three days before we remove them.
  5. Removal. After fourteen days of pause we remove the servers with their data, and tell you. Removed data cannot be brought back.

Backups during a pause

Backups that you switched on keep billing while a server is paused, because they keep taking up space.

Avoid the pause

  • Keep an eye on the estimated balance on the Billing screen.
  • Or switch on automatic top-ups with a ceiling you are comfortable with.
