Start, stop or restart several servers at once
On the Servers screen you can start, stop or restart several servers in one go instead of one by one. Each server goes through the same checks as when you do it on its own page.
Select the servers
- Open Servers in the console.
- Tick the box in front of each server you want. Only a server that is running or stopped has a box: one that is being built, moved or removed has none.
- A bar appears above the list with the number you selected and the buttons Start, Restart and Stop. Clear selection removes all ticks.
The boxes are on a wider screen. On a phone the list has no boxes; use a computer or tablet.
You can also use the API below.
Start, stop or restart them
- Choose Start, Restart or Stop in the bar.
- The dialog names the servers once more. Check them and confirm.
The message at the top of the screen names the servers that are starting, stopping or restarting. A server that cannot do it at that moment, for example one that is already running when you choose Start, is skipped and named: "Not possible now for web-2." The others go ahead.
One action takes at most 50 servers.
Force off is never offered for several servers. Use it on one server at a time, from its own page, and only when Stop does not work. See Stop, restart and remove a server.
A stopped server still costs money: it keeps its disk and its address. Only removing a server ends its billing.
Download the list as CSV
Under the list, choose Download as CSV. You get a file named servers-<date>.csv with one line per server of your account and these columns:
| Column | What it holds |
|---|---|
name |
The name of the server |
label |
Its label, if it has one |
status |
running, stopped or another state |
plan |
The plan, such as S-2 |
system |
The operating system |
location |
The city of its location |
ipv4, ipv6 |
Its addresses |
monthly_price, currency |
The monthly price of its plan, excluding VAT, and the currency of your account |
created_at |
When it was made, in UTC |
id |
The id of the server, as the API uses it |
A column backups says yes or no: whether backups are on for the server.
A last column, project, holds the name of its project.
Through the API
With an API token a script can do the same:
| Method and path | What it does |
|---|---|
POST /servers/actions/start |
Start the servers in servers, a list of at most 50 server ids |
POST /servers/actions/stop |
Stop them |
POST /servers/actions/reboot |
Restart them |
The answer is 202 with the ids that go ahead in done and the ones that were skipped, with the reason, in skipped. When none of them could go ahead the answer is 422, and a list with none of your servers in it gives 404.
