Choose between Standard, Dedicated CPU and High Memory

Last verified on

All three families run on the same platform and are billed the same way. They differ in how CPU and memory are shared out.

Standard

CPU capacity is shared with other servers on the same host. That makes Standard the practical choice for websites, development environments, small databases and apps whose load goes up and down. If your app only needs the processor now and then, you pay less for the same result.

Dedicated CPU

CPU capacity is reserved for your server. Choose it when your app keeps the processor busy: busy APIs, build servers, queue workers, video or data processing. Performance is even from hour to hour, because nobody else uses your cores.

High Memory

More RAM for every CPU. Choose it for data you want to keep in memory: caches, in-memory databases, analytics. More RAM does not mean dedicated CPU.

Levels

A new account starts at a level that opens the Standard family. Dedicated CPU and High Memory open at a higher level, which you reach by topping up. When you configure a plan that your level does not open yet, the family says so, and the step Your account of the order asks you to top up to raise your level. See Levels and limits.

Changing your mind

A server can change plan within its own family only. To move to another family, start a new server, copy your data and remove the old one. You pay both only for the hours they overlap.
